LuftQuest

LUFTQUEST VS ROUVY

Ride the actual Stelvio on video, or ride an imaginary road while being insulted. Both work.

THE SHORT VERSION

Rouvy's appeal is realism: footage of genuine roads and famous climbs, with your smart trainer matching the gradient under you. It is a subscription product and it needs controllable resistance to make sense.

LuftQuest goes the other way entirely — deliberately retro graphics, a coach with a mouth on him, prize challenges, and no subscription or trainer control required.

PICK ROUVY IF

  • You are training for a specific real climb and want to rehearse it.
  • You own a smart trainer and want the gradient to actually change.
  • Scenery is what distracts you, and a game world feels too artificial.
  • You like structured challenges tied to real routes.

PICK LUFTQUEST IF

  • You do not want to pay, and you do not want to install anything.
  • Your trainer is basic, or you use a power meter on rollers.
  • Video of a road at a fixed camera angle sends you to sleep.
  • You want a target on screen and something to win for hitting it.
  • You want your own music running with a coach who politely ducks under it.

RUNNING THEM TOGETHER

Rouvy controls the trainer; LuftQuest only listens. If your sensors allow a second connection — or you use an ANT+ dongle — you can have the real climb on screen and the coach in your ear at the same time. It is a slightly ridiculous combination and it works well.

FAQ

Does Rouvy need a smart trainer?

Not strictly, but most of the point is the gradient simulation, and you lose that with a basic trainer.

Is video better than a game world?

It depends entirely on what holds your attention. Video is more authentic; a game world is more interactive. Neither makes you fitter than the other.
