LuftQuest

LUFTQUEST VS ZWIFT

Two very different answers to the same problem: an hour on a trainer is boring.

THE SHORT VERSION

Zwift builds a world for you to ride in, with thousands of other people in it, and charges a subscription for it. LuftQuest sits on top of whatever setup you already own, shouts at you, gives you prizes to chase, and costs nothing.

They are not really competitors. Plenty of riders use both.

PICK ZWIFT IF

  • Other people are what get you on the bike — group rides, races, someone to chase.
  • You want your trainer to control the resistance so gradients feel real.
  • You are happy paying monthly for a polished, actively developed world.
  • You want a full structured plan inside the same app as the entertainment.

PICK LUFTQUEST IF

  • You do not want another subscription.
  • You own a basic trainer and a power meter and that is it.
  • You find virtual worlds oddly lonely and would rather be heckled by a coach with opinions.
  • You want prizes, a quest card and a leaderboard rather than a racing licence.
  • You want something that loads in a browser on the tablet already propped on your bars.

OR USE BOTH

Because LuftQuest reads your sensors rather than controlling your trainer, it can run alongside another app. A common combination is Zwift or a structured training app driving the session, with LuftQuest supplying the coach and the prize challenges. On Bluetooth you may need a second sensor connection or an ANT+ dongle to share the data cleanly.

WHAT WE DO NOT PRETEND TO HAVE

No virtual world, no avatars, no group rides, no video of real roads, and no adaptive multi-month plan that rewrites itself based on your performance. If those matter to you, pay for the app that has them — you will train more, and that is the point.

FAQ

Is LuftQuest a Zwift clone?

No. There is no 3D world and no other riders. It is a coach, a workout engine, a retro scrolling road and an arcade scoring layer.

Can LuftQuest control my smart trainer?

Not currently — it reads power, heart rate and cadence over Bluetooth. You control resistance with your gears or via another app.

Which is better for getting faster?

Whichever one you actually use three times a week. Both can deliver the same structured sessions; the difference is what keeps you coming back.

Does LuftQuest work on a phone?

It runs in a browser with Bluetooth support. A tablet or laptop gives the best view of the road and the metrics.
